While this depends upon the laws governing your city, county or state, it is safe to say that they are usually permitted. There are likely restrictions regarding gender (e.g. in Dallas roosters are prohibited), quantity, location and housing so check the law for details. Many municipalities have their information online, you can call city hall, or even a veterinarian's office. ALso look for chicken owners in your area. - Does it take a lot of space?
